The latest model, and most probably the final product.
Basically the product is to help the elderly who have difficulty reaching items on shelves that are too high.
It has the features of :
Different coloured shelves(for recognition of items on shelve)
Titles of items in the shelves printed on the shelves
Handles for the elderly to rotate the shelves
Shelves that hang down due to gravity and thus the items do not fall out when turning the product.
The length of the design has been shorten so that the elderly does not have to stretch their arm to get the items.

This is my first design...it is to help the elderly who have difficulty in getting items up in the shelves.
Basically, the elderly stores all the items(food, stationery etc.) on the shelves, and when she needs these items, she just has to turn the whole design as the shelves are always hanging down from the beams that are connecting them from one end to another.

Rank 1: Are there ways in which the elderly can help in the society? - The young can contribute to the society, so it would be good for the elderly to help out too, also keeping them active at the same time.
What can we do so that the young and the elderly do not fell awkward when together since the age difference?- Some young people are shy and thus do not dare to help the elderly and they might feel awkward when helping the elderly, making them not give their best effort to help and interact with the elderly.
Rank 2: Do the elderly feel that we look down on them since the young helps them in their daily life as they need help from someone?-Some of the elderly think that we are looking down on them as they are receiving help from someone, and they might not like it an might not accept the young's help.
Are there other ways in which we can help the elderly?-Besides helping them at home, in transportation and more, what other types of help can we help them in.
Rank 3: How do the elderly feel when the young are helping them in their daily needs?- Do they take the help for granted? Or do they feel grateful? How do they feel, so that we know what we can help them too, or what we need to improve when helping them.

Explain in your own words, the FOUR key recommendations of the report.
4 key recommendations -Housing, accessibility, caring, opportunities.
Housing: The should be a place for the elderly to live in and houses should not be subjective to only young people but instead, everyone should live together with the elderly to live in harmony.
Accessibility: Their means of transport will be easy to access and safe for their use. Such transport will allow the seniors to come out of their homes and not be restricted in their room.
Caring: Seniors will have easy access to have their needs taken cared for example-their health, so that Singapore will be a country that has the young and the old.
Opportunities: To allow the elderly to interact with the people around them, their friends and families. to give opportunities to the elderly so that they will be able to enjoy life with the rest of Singapore. Also to give the elderly a chance so that people will accept elderly as part of their community.
- State ONE way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly-friendly
They are able to built the elderly a house that suits their every need to make their life easy.
State TWO ways on how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable
The government could help subsidize some of the medical bills for families who have a low monthly income. Another way would be to learn the skills to treat the elderly so that we do not need to go to the clinic or hospital whenever something happens.
After reading the CAI report, what do you are theTHREE things that you can do, as an SST student, to help overcome these elderly challenges
1. Help give the elderly a chance to enjoy life- interact with the elderly, talk to them, play with them.
2. Help them in their daily life if the have any problem with traveling or commuting around Singapore
3. Participate in community service that help the elderly, organise games to help strengthen the bond between the young and old.

I have seen elderly crossing the roads without using the traffic light or in other words- Jay walking. They always do this as they are lazy and tired to walk to the nearest traffic light. This is very dangerous to them and everyone else and as the elderly walk slowly, this makes them more prone to accidents.
The elderly have weak bones and most of their problems are due to that. Some elderly around my neighbourhood that I have seen have to carry bags of groceries from the market and have to walk through the park with all their heavy goods in their hands. This tires them down and will also affect their knee bone from walking such long distances and carrying so many things, and this is their daily routine.
I have also observed that the elderly sometimes need to help carry his/her grandchildren's bag. Even though the children do not know that their grand parents are facing lots of stress, their parents should tell them to carry their own school bag. From my observation under my HBD flat, I have seen that the elderly seem very miserable when carrying their grandchildren's school bag. They seem to dread carrying the bag as if they were forced to carry it.
My third observation is that the elderly are always very cautious when walking during a rainy day. Firstly, they take short steps and walk as steady as they can as the ground is very slippery. Secondly, the steps that they walk up and down are very slippery too. As the steps are made up of bricks, and even worst, the railings are metal, the elderly do not have a sense of grip on the railing, which does not give them a sense of security.
My last observation is that when my grandmother is walking around, she always needs a support if she does not have her walking stick with her. She would support on everything around her like the shelves, walls, chairs and more. Also, it is a difficulty for her to get up in the morning as she needs a lot of energy to get up as elderly are mostly very weak.

- In your opinion, what are some of the problems of the current design of the shopping trolley?
- What are some of the rules instituted by the IDEO's design team, and why do you think were they instituted?
- From your observation, what are some of the company's culture or practices that have made IDEO one of the best design company in the world?
- How do you think some of these culture or practices can be implemented or internalised in SST, or within you as a student?
1. It may be too expensive for people to buy
2. To encourage wild ideas, stay focused on the topic and defer judgment. So that the products they come out with is successful and creative.
3. The have fun in the process of working to come out with creative designs.
4. We should let our ideas run wild.

Samuel and Zhi Yong.
Topics we are touching on: Environmentally-friendly campaigns, and water conservation.
The problem: People are wasting water that can be recycled or reused. They use non-environmentally-friendly products or do things which harm the environment.
